Car Detailing - General Information
It is a high standard process of thoroughly cleaning of an automobile (car). It is goal is to keep both the exterior and interior of the car as good as new if possible. A clean car makes one feel great. It is less damaging and more detailed than a simple car wash. It covers a wide range of techniques and products. Even though it maintains or keeps the car new, detailing at times does not give the same results when done on greatly damaged cars or older cars and does not completely restore it. Although they might be able to restore it, it requires a lot of labour, more complex materials and equipment and requires a lot of money which will cost as much as half of the value of the car. An example can be trying to restore a car with old and rugged seats and carpets, vacuuming and damp cleaning won’t be sufficient to make the car to look as new although the odour might be eliminated, hence in this type of situation repairing of seats and getting new mats will be required to get a greater outcome.
People often do car detailing for various reasons. First and foremost, lack of time, for example the working class they do not have enough time as they are tired and want to rest when they are of work so this helps them as they can get their cars cleaned to perfection at a minimum time and cost. The other reason is when selling a car, to get great value of one’s car they need to make it look as new as possible. Detailing a car may add up to $1000 value to the car yet it will only cost roughly $200. It also increases the chances of getting more prospective buyers. Rejecting a car and not taking good care of it can lead to decrease in value and permanent damage that cannot be easily and cheaply fixed. Some also do some car detailing after purchasing a new car, it can get rid of any odour and can also make the car to look a bit new boosting their personal pride and promoting comfort. After a long road trip from holiday, a car may be covered with dust and mud especially when travelling in the countryside. Some people prefer to get the detailing done after holidays as leaving the dirt as one goes back to work might cause problems that won’t be easy to be solved and cause permanent damage. Special occasions such as weddings and anniversaries also requires some detailing.
I have had quite several people asking me on the difference between car detailing and simple car wash. Well, it is simple as 123 to understand. Car washes range from as little as $10 to $30. Detailing is more complex as it includes waxing, surface cleaning, interior polish and small dent removal. Car detailing often takes about four to six hours as I have said in the first paragraph that it is a thorough compared to a simple wash which takes roughly 20 minutes at most. Car washing uses some machines that might be harmful to the car and use vast amounts of water to clean compared to detailing as limited amount of water is used. Detailing also includes cleaning of the engine and rims of the car removing any residues that may be harmful to the wheels or can cause accident. Back when I was in high school my teacher lost his life in a very disturbing, because of a truck which had a stone on the wheel rim and released it on the oncoming car precluding in the windscreen and knocking the man to death, hence detailing avoid accidents like that. Lastly but not least it involves waxing and restoring of the interior and exterior surface.
Another common question from consumers is how often should one detail their car. The answer is very simple but not standard. It is not easy to determine as it depended on several factors. Factors include considerations such as use of the car, for example commercial cars obviously for example wedding cars need to be detailed more often than a private car owned but someone who uses it once a week. Storage of the car also counts as some cars are stored in garages and some outside and obviously the one in the garage will need less detailing than the one which stays outside as it exposed to bad weather and other tear and wearing factors. But generally, for a moderate risk car one might need to detail it for at least twice a year. one may need to wash it regularly although carwash is not the best idea as it can be harmful it is better than nothing.
Car detailing comes with a wide range of benefits and advantages. It extends the life of paint through cleaning and protects material for example getting rid of the mud deposits on wheels and reduces oxidation and rusting of metals. One may also be able to customise their car during detailing for example changing the wheels and bumbers making it look more beautiful, hence this promotes creativity and gives the customers to choose what suits them specifically. Dirt and dust is removed and hence having a safe car. Dust can trigger major health problems that can be life threatening for example asthma and other respiratory diseases. It also gets rid of any unpleasant smell in the car giving one’s car a good and fresh smell. It is also environmentally friendly as less water is used in the process that is a good and conservative measures of saving water and trees. Wax is also applied to painted surfaces to protect materials from oxidation causing rusting. Special tools are also used and some car detailing companies offer a car to use whilst they attend to yours and can do it one’s home or work.
